I absolutely love the smell of pine trees. The scent always brings me back to the days when we spent Christmas at my grandmother’s house — bringing both tears and a smile to my face. After my grandmother’s passing, my mother kept up with the tradition of having a real tree each year, now the tree not only reminds me of abuela, but now my family. So this year, I decided to take an old tradition and make it a new tradition in the Malave household.
My original plan was to head to Lowes and pick out a tree. But it was Jorge who suggested that we cut down our own tree and make the tradition our own; I’m pretty sure I bear hugged him at that moment. Usually it’s me who comes up with the ideas of starting our little family traditions, this time, it was him. Now, I can’t wait until we have kids — we will visit a tree farm together, pick out the perfect tree, drive it home, then decorate it together, while mommy burns cookies in the oven! The thought just warms my heart! However that is still ways away… For now, it was just the three of us — myself, Logan and Jorge.
Happy Holidays! From my family to yours! xo
