During my visit to Colorado in May, I decided to collaborate with a few talented vendors in the area to produce an uber romantic photo shoot. At first, I couldn’t tell you exactly what my goals were, but I knew I wanted to incorporate Colorado’s beauty somehow. Thanks to the Rising Tide Society for putting together an amazing community, I was able to connect with another photographer who had family members living in the Denver area. After Mike and Bess agreed to be my models for the day I knew this shoot was going to happen, one way or another!
The purpose of this shoot was to push myself creatively and improve my posing techniques. There were a few things I learned:
1. When you are shooting for yourself, it’s so much fun! I believe it’s important to shoot for yourself sometimes, as wedding photographers as much as we enjoy weddings they are still a high stressed environment that require us to stay focused and get the things we need to get done first. Although our couples hire us for our style, about 80% of our work is for the client and 20% your creativity. This shoot was 100% my creativity! :)
2. Practice makes perfect! I’ve seen my posing style change over the year, but sometimes you get stuck doing the same thing over and over! This time I told myself to use my normal techniques but try to have 3 different poses that I normally wouldn’t get. Changing angles helped to. And moving away from the center point of your client does wonders.
3. I love Denver!
I would like to thank the vendors who participated in the photoshoot. I adore your craftsmanship and for welcoming this Philadelphian to your town! Another special thanks to Mike and Bess for being SO incredible and hanging out with this crazy Latina. We had a great time around the Flatirons then finished off our time together with some food and drinks in the city. Until next time. xo!
